Description

This set comprises a governor’s desk and a side desk used by successive governors in the Kagawa Prefectural Office Former Main Building and East Wing, a reinforced-concrete structure designed by the architect Tange Kenzo (1913–2005) and completed in 1958. The governor’s desk is distinguished by its substantial tabletop, which is 8 cm thick, and its modesty panel. Paired with a lower side desk, the ensemble accentuates the desks’ refined elegance.
Together with furnishings for shared spaces such as the Piloti and Citizens’ Rooms, these pieces were designated as appurtenances to the Kagawa Prefectural Office Former Main Building and East Wing, which is a designated Important Cultural Property. The furniture was designed by Kenmochi Isamu, who also created tables and chairs for Tange’s Kagawa Prefectural Gymnasium, which was completed in 1964.
